In openness, awe and wonder, let’s serve God and the neighbour.
By watching the video « Mysteries of the Unseen World”, one is filled with wonder and awe for the intricacies and mystery of creation. In fact, with time lapse photography, we are now able to watch a mushroom “grow” and see the “aliveness” of our earth-home; through the “eye” of a high-speed camera we can observe that a dragonfly has four wings, and see them all moving in different directions at the same time; through the electron microscope we are able to see the beauty and delicacy of a butterfly egg.
I found the readings for today quite jarring after this beautiful video that magnified the complexity, unity and harmony of our created world. The letter of James speaks of the conflicts within this early Christian community and within each person that divide, destroy and separate us from each other and from God. “Do you not know that to be a lover of the world means enmity with God?” In this context, (suite…)

L’Esprit Saint nous aide à vivre pleinement notre vie chrétienne. Accueillons et écoutons-le.
L’Esprit saint est le grand protagoniste de la vie chrétienne. C’est Lui qui anime la vie de tout chrétien. Vivre de sa vie ne signifie pas vivre désincarné, indifférents aux évènements de l’histoire de chaque jour. L’Esprit Saint ne nous enlève pas d monde réel ; au contraire, Il habite le cœur des évènements quotidiens, en les mettant en relation avec Dieu, auteur de l’histoire. Tout ceci pourrait sembler abstrait, n’est-ce pas ?
Les fonctions de l’Esprit Saint selon l’Evangile de ce jour.
Dans le passage de l’Evangile que nous lisons en ce sixième dimanche de Pâques, Jésus lui attribue des rôles entre autres : enseigner et rappeler : « l’Esprit Saint que le Père enverra en mon nom, lui, vous enseignera tout, et il vous fera souvenir de tout ce que je vous ai dit ». Puisqu’il enseignera, l’Esprit Saint insère son action dans la continuité de l’enseignement et la révélation faits par Jésus, portant à en comprendre la profondeur et l’extension. Love one another. No need of strategy sessions. Only being aware of God’s love for you.
Today, Jesus gives us one commandment: LOVE ONE ANOTHER. There it is. Yeah! There is no need for multiple tabs and reference books. No need for strategy sessions. Or perhaps there is a need for a certain kind of strategy which is to be ever aware of God’s love for us so we can love one another. Such a simple and such a demanding commandment. Jesus goes on to say that having love for one another is how he will know who his disciples are.
My understanding of discipleship continues to grow and in today’s first reading from the Acts of the Apostles we learn of Paul and Barnabas making a considerable number of disciples. They supported the disciples by reminding them to persevere in faith which can be very challenging at times. We all as disciples need to be reminded of the Lord’s commandment: love one another as I have loved you. Listening for and appreciating the love of God allows us to live the commandment to love others.
Today I am called to appreciate God’s love for me and in that appreciation show love to others in simple and meaningful ways. A challenge I continually face is to stay in the present and meet others where they are. How can I really hear what someone is trying to say? How can I show patience for someone who is getting in the way of my goal? How can I help someone feel the ever present love of God? Sometimes showing love for another is so easy to do and sometimes it is the last thing I want to do.
So my prayer with today’s readings calls me to discipleship and to a renewed commitment to follow the commandment to love one another. The responsibility of this commandment feels overwhelming. Shall I take that commitment today?
